He Wore It Well
My son, Jordan, had a wonderful sense of style... it came natural to him. He always stood out in a crowd! He didn’t spend a lot of money on his clothes, often picking up bargains at second-hand stores. He was able to put different pieces together and the results were always something special... he wore it well!
After his death in February of 2016, his clothes were packed up and moved to my house. I hung his suits in my closet, where I saw them almost every day. I didn’t think I would ever part with those suits. Then at a GriefShare meeting last spring, one of the facilitators talked about an organization he was affiliated with that gave donated suits to those in need for job interviews or other special occasions. There was no charge for the clothing. I kept this information in the back of my mind, knowing that is what Jordan would have wanted us to do with his clothes.
Last Friday my daughter and I donated the suits to Cooperative Care in Pueblo. The Executive Director gave us a tour of the facility and outlined their mission. They were warm, friendly and made us feel special. We were so impressed with the organization and their efforts to help those in need. My daughter and I left with smiles on our faces... we felt good about the donation. What had begun as a difficult task turned out to be a comforting experience for both of us.
There is nothing that can compensate for the tragic loss of one so loved. I miss Jordan so much and my grief is still, at times, almost unbearable, but I have found there is some comfort in blessing others. Jordan always had a heart for the less fortunate and he was a true advocate of the underdog… in his precious memory, we look for opportunities to make a difference in the lives of people. I know he would be proud.
As long as we live, Jordan, you will continue to shine bright in a hurting world. You are deeply loved.
